Learner Spotlight: Kyojuro Kitano

kyojuro_kitano

Kyojuro Kitano (京十朗), nicknamed “Kyo,” is a first grader with iLEAD Exploration. Kyo’s a thinker. He’s very curious about the world and how things work, and asks great questions. He will quietly mull over new information, draw conclusions or imagine new possibilities, and then share those ideas with others days or weeks later.

He loves a good musical film/video score, too. He memorizes them, and then sings/hums them as soundtracks to the scenarios he creates in his play. He loves playing with his Transformers and building with LEGOs. His favorite thing to do is spend time with his extended family, including his six cousins (especially outdoors on his grandparents’ land in Arizona).

Kyo also has grandparents in Japan. He Skypes with them regularly and visits Japan, too. Kyo is simultaneous bilingual/bicultural, which means he learned both languages and cultures from birth. He’s also attending Japanese school on Saturdays to learn to read and write in Japanese. Kyo is especially interested in the sciences. He lives in Los Angeles and is always interested in meeting new friends!
